One of the most common childhood diseases is stomatitis. Moreover, it can manifest itself from the first months of the baby’s life. That is why the choice of a suitable drug must be approached very responsibly.

Be sure, in addition to effectiveness, you should also take into account the safety of the drug for the fragile body of a small child .

One of the few drugs that takes into account both points - effectiveness and safety - is Vinilin. This drug is also known under another name - Shostakovsky balm.

What does it represent?

Externally, the medicine is a rather thick orange or yellow liquid, which has a distinct smell and taste . It is not water-soluble, but oil-soluble, and does not thicken in open air.

After the joint invention of the drug by Shostakovsky and Favorsky, it has been successfully used since the early forties. Its wound-healing effect, which is of primary importance in the local treatment of stomatitis, is complemented by the absence of toxicity .

This is of great importance, since the drug is successfully used in pediatric dentistry, starting from infancy.

Side effects

The drug does not have pronounced side effects, in some cases only the following may occur:

  • redness;
  • rashes;
  • itching

In this case, antihistamines are taken as prescribed by the doctor and symptomatic therapy is carried out. Various remedies are prescribed to relieve itching.

Action

The active ingredient of this drug is polyvinyl butyl ether or polyvinox. Vinilin has a whole range of actions, among which regenerative and bacteriostatic are predominant . The drug inhibits the life processes of pathogenic bacteria, which causes their death.

At the same time, polyvinox accelerates the process of restoration of damaged tissue. It simultaneously stimulates protein synthesis and cell division and inhibits free radical reactions.

Another effect of using the balm is the local synthesis of active substances that improve microcirculation in mucosal tissues .

Once on the surface of the damaged mucosa, the substance has the ability to envelop it. Thanks to this, there is a lasting positive effect from the use of the drug, since there is no influx of new aggressive microorganisms.

In a separate article, we will discuss whether stomatitis in children is contagious.

We will talk about methods of treating aphthous form in adults at the link https://www.vash-dentist.ru/lechenie/bolezni-polosti-rta/stomatit-bpr/aftoznogo-u-vzroslyih-i-detey.html. How to avoid developing the disease?

Classification of the pathological process.

There are several types of stomatitis. They all differ in their causes and clinical manifestations. The most common are the following:

  1. Catarrhal stomatitis
    . The disease is often confused with gingivitis and inflammation of the tongue. It manifests itself in the form of swelling and redness of the mucous membrane.
  2. Ulcerative stomatitis
    . The main symptom is the accumulation of gray or white plaque. The wounds very quickly become deep and penetrate further into the tissue.
  3. Aphthous stomatitis
    . It is a bacterial form of the disease. The pustules are clearly visible and surrounded by a scarlet ring. The pathological process is often accompanied by fever and requires the use of antibiotics.

Benefits of use

In most cases of stomatitis in children, especially if the disease is severe, treatment requires the use of a whole range of remedies, including strong antibacterial drugs.

The main advantage of Vinilin is that it has several therapeutic effects at once, thanks to the substances included in its composition.

The list is quite extensive:

  • disinfecting effect due to the antimicrobial activity of the drug;
  • anti-inflammatory effect;
  • cleansing damaged mucous membranes – ulcers and wounds;
  • prevention of re-infection due to its soft enveloping effect;
  • accelerating the process of regeneration of damaged tissues;
  • analgesic effect , which appears soon after use.

Particular attention should be paid to the softening, enveloping and analgesic effect. This is very important for the youngest patients – infants.

In them, stomatitis can lead to dehydration. This occurs due to severe painful sensations, which result in the baby refusing to eat and drink.

To avoid such consequences of the disease during treatment, it is very important to use agents that can reduce pain and accelerate the healing of damaged mucosa. Only in this case will it be possible to avoid the dangerous consequences of the disease.

Vinilin fully meets these requirements, therefore it has an undeniable advantage over other drugs.

General information

Vinilin (Shostakovsky balm) is an anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and wound-healing drug used for a wide range of infectious pathologies.
The medicine is a liquid solution for topical application. In addition, there is a drug in the form of an ointment.

The solution is a yellow viscous substance, poorly soluble in water. It has a specific smell.

The main active ingredient is polyvinox (polyvinyl butyl ether). This component has an antibacterial effect by inhibiting the growth of pathogenic microflora.

The substance is also characterized by an enveloping effect, due to which the medicine has anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties.

In addition to stomatitis, the drug is used for the following pathologies:

  • Burns;
  • Ulcerative diseases;
  • Skin dermatitis;
  • Infectious diseases in purulent form;
  • Haemorrhoids;
  • Frostbite;
  • Boils.

In dentistry, Vinilin is used in the treatment of gingivitis, periodontal disease, inflammation of the tongue, and periodontitis.

Indications and contraindications

Indications

The diseases and problems for which Vinylin is used are quite extensive. Wound healing, pain relief and inflammation relief are one of the first tasks in the treatment of stomatitis.

Therefore, the main indication for the use of the drug in dentistry is the treatment of mouth ulcers, canker sores and other types of damage to the mucous membranes of the lips, oral cavity and tongue.

These injuries are typical for traumatic, fungal (thrush), aphthous and some other types of stomatitis. Vinilin is also prescribed for inflammation of the tongue (glossitis) and gums (gingivitis and periodontal disease).

In addition, there are a number of common diseases, both internal and external, in the complex treatment of which this drug is used:

  • purulent formations and wounds of soft tissues, including boils and carbuncles;
  • frostbite and burns;
  • scabies, dermatitis and pustular skin diseases;
  • hyperacid, erosive gastritis and ulcerative colitis;
  • mastitis and leukoplakia;
  • Crohn's disease;
  • chronic injuries to the oral mucosa after the use of poorly fitted dentures, with chips and destruction of tooth crowns.

Contraindications

  • Pregnancy, as well as lactation and breastfeeding. The drug is not used because there is no data on the possible consequences of its entry into the child’s body.
  • Age restrictions. It is not used for children under 14 in cases where it is necessary to take the drug orally.
  • Disturbances in the functioning of the liver, kidneys and gall bladder.
  • Individual intolerance and the occurrence of allergic reactions to the components of the drug.

Side effects

According to reviews, if you strictly follow the rules for using the drug and dosage prescribed by your doctor, then no side effects will occur.

However, with an overdose of Vinilin, in this case - too much application and contact with undamaged areas, some characteristic manifestations are possible :

  • redness;
  • severe itching;
  • rashes, possibly in the form of hives.

In the same way, an allergic reaction to the drug also manifests itself , in the presence of which use should be discontinued or, after consulting with a doctor, the dosage should be reduced.

Do stomatitis need to be treated?

Stomatitis is an inflammatory process that develops on the oral mucosa. It can appear on the gums, cheeks, and tongue. It occurs quite often in childhood, but is also diagnosed in adult patients.

The disease manifests itself in the form of ulcers. In the absence of timely treatment, they quickly spread throughout the oral cavity and increase in size. Stomatitis never goes away on its own. Therefore, you should not waste time, and if initial symptoms appear, you should immediately consult a doctor.

What do you need to remember?

Parents should pay special attention to the fact that children under 14 years of age should not take the drug orally. Therefore, to treat stomatitis in children, only a form of balm or solution (rinse) is used in small quantities and only topically.

In many cases of painful stomatitis in young children, vinylin is not only possible, but also must be combined with the use of other drugs and preparations:

  • For example, if the bacteriostatic effect of vinylin is not enough, then strong antibacterial agents should also be used.
  • The same applies to childhood stomatitis, which is of a viral nature. Vinylin cannot resist viruses. Therefore, it is used only as an analgesic and regenerative agent, and the main treatment consists of the use of antiviral (most often antiherpetic) drugs.

In this publication we will talk about the features of the course of catarrhal stomatitis.

Here https://www.vash-dentist.ru/detskaya-stomatologia/polost-rta/stomatit/chem-i-kak-lechit-u-rebenka.html we have collected tips on how to treat various forms of stomatitis in a child.

Typically, the effect of using a medicine appears very quickly and is quite durable . But this action, in fact, is only the elimination of symptoms. Some cases require the simultaneous use of other medications that treat the problem that caused the disease, not just the symptoms.

A preliminary consultation with a doctor is very important, who will determine whether there is a need to use Vinilin. If necessary, he will name the exact dosages and also prescribe other drugs that it is advisable to use in combination.

If this is not done, then after the protective effect of Vinilin ends, a relapse may occur, that is, the appearance of repeated symptoms, which this time may be even more pronounced.

Instructions for treating affected areas

Using the drug for the treatment of childhood stomatitis does not require special preparation. You can use both a balm and a mouth rinse solution.

Such rinses are allowed from the time when the child can consciously spit on his own .

If children under 2–4 years of age are treated, the treatment is carried out as follows :

  • wash your hands thoroughly;
  • apply a small amount of balm to a gauze pad (cotton swab/cotton gauze swab);
  • treat damaged areas of the mucosa, applying the medicine in an extremely thin layer, but in sufficient quantity.

The procedure is repeated quite often - from 2-3 to 4-5 times a day. Lubrication is carried out an hour and a half after eating (feeding).

For half an hour after the procedure, you should not take food or any drinks , including water. If the child is old enough to understand the mother’s words and strictly follow the instructions, then he should be explained that he should never swallow the medicine.

This medicine can be used both in pure form and together with other products for external use - creams and ointments. And not only one by one, but also simultaneously.

This clarification also applies to medicinal oils (for example, sea buckthorn), with which the balm mixes well without separating or changing its properties.

Price

The cost of the drug depends largely on the capacity of the package (bottle). Also, vinyl produced by different manufacturers may vary slightly in price. However, in any case, the medicine is not expensive.

The average cost of a small bottle of 50 ml is about 180 rubles, and a large package of 100 mm is approximately 245-250 rubles .

With its price attractiveness and versatility of use, Vinylin is not in short supply - it can be easily purchased in most pharmacy chains without a prescription.

    Stomatitis torments my child quite often, and from time to time I have these “painful” and unpleasant white ulcers in my mouth. I’ve never taken my stomatitis seriously, but I don’t want my child to be tormented at all. I’ve never heard of vanilla; we always go to the pharmacy and buy anti-stomatitis remedies on the advice of the pharmacist. In 99% of cases, they offer imported drugs at exorbitant prices, and the effect leaves much to be desired. We’ll definitely try vanillin, it’s not expensive, but it’s interesting. First I’ll try it on myself, then I’ll treat my son. Live and learn! :) Thank you!

    Vinylin! If everything that is written about this drug is true, then there is no better remedy for stomatitis (and other “troubles”!). My twins simply tortured me with this disease. We treat, we treat! Haven't tried it yet! Many not only don’t relieve the pain, they don’t even lower the temperature! Tomorrow I will make a cult trip to the doctor, and then to the pharmacy and check the effectiveness of this remedy! If the therapeutic effect is confirmed, I will definitely write about it and advertise it to everyone!

    The first time I encountered stomatitis was when my first child was 8 months old. It was very difficult for us; among various drugs, we were also prescribed vinylin. They smeared it in the mouth every 2-3 hours, every day the child became better. It all went away in about a week. It’s a good drug, not expensive, it really helps, and my mother treated me with it as a child.

    My baby and I encountered stomatitis at a fairly early age; the child cried a lot and cried a lot. Our doctor also recommended treatment with Shostakovsky balm. The product is very suitable for babies; after the first use, my son began to cry less often, and severe inflammation disappeared. There were no side effects; for a complete cure, only this balm was enough for us.

    I suffered a lot during the time when my daughter had stomatitis, it was probably worse than the time when the child was cutting teeth. It’s good that this disease is quite common and now there are a lot of drugs that are safe for children. I bought Vinilin, it was recommended by a doctor. The treatment went quite quickly, the child did not refuse use, the symptoms disappeared within a week.
