What to do if the slime does not thicken

If the slime does not work out, this may be caused by the following factors:

Insufficient mixing. The slime should not only be mixed with a spoon, but also thoroughly kneaded with your hands. If the toy is too liquid, you should try again to thoroughly knead it with your hands. The approximate mixing time is at least five minutes.
Not enough thickener. If after additional mixing the slime still does not reach the desired consistency, you need to add more activator.
Bad glue. You should always pay attention to the expiration date of the glue, since an expired product does not react with sodium tetraborate.
Lots of liquid. When making slime with water or shampoo, the proportions should be observed: the liquid component should not exceed half the mass of the finished toy.

To get the desired consistency, you should try all the options: knead thoroughly with your hands, add a thickener or glue, put the toy in the refrigerator for an hour. If after all these manipulations the toy does not acquire the required consistency, the glue should be replaced.

Classic slime recipe

The so-called “basic” recipe, on the basis of which you can make many other slimes by adding certain components. For it you will need PVA or silicate glue, borax, and water. The appearance and durability of the future slime depends on the quality and freshness of the adhesive base.

First, dilute sodium tetraborate with water. For half a glass of water - half a teaspoon of borax.
In another container, tint 50 grams of glue with any dye and mix so that the color is uniform, without streaks.
Now we begin to gradually add liquid to the colored mass, stirring constantly. Soon the mass will begin to thicken, reaching for a spoon.
We stir the mixture for some more time, because the water prevents it from thickening quickly. Then you can take the slime with your hands and continue to knead it.

That's all. The "basic" sodium tetraborate slime is ready to play. This slime is stored inside an airtight container in a cool place.

With glycerin

Even a novice slimer can make a slime using this recipe if the glue is chosen correctly. The toy will be an original type, it can be decorated with sparkles or any pigment.

1 tsp. shampoo,
0.5 tsp. cream or 1 tsp. glycerin,
5 tsp. PVA glue,

What can replace borax if necessary?

Sodium tetraborate is a dangerous component for children; it can cause allergic reactions and you need to be careful with it. Therefore, more harmless improvised means can be used as a thickener for slimes.

Thickeners for slimes that can be found in any kitchen:

soda;
potato starch;
flour.

To prepare slimes with these ingredients, you need to take 100 ml. water and PVA glue, as well as 100 ml. chosen thickener (flour, soda or starch). If the mixture is too liquid, the amount of activator needs to be increased.

This type of slime has a significant difference from other types. It will be called magnetic if it exhibits the appropriate properties. To achieve this you will need:

white PVA glue
magnetic shavings
any dye and glitter
sodium tetraborate, as an activator
some shaving foam

First we make fluffy slime. You should mix glue, shaving foam, dye, glitter and, last but not least, magnetic shavings. Now you can add the thickener. In our case, sodium tetraborate. The resulting slime is pleasant to the touch, soft and elastic. But the most interesting thing will happen if you bring a magnet to it. The viscous mass will be drawn to it, and if you don’t hold the magnet, but just put it next to it, the slime will pull it into itself.

Glossy with oil for baby skin

This slime has a glossy shine and shimmer. It is also very soft, so it has a flowing texture, but it can also be assembled into rosettes.

2 tubes of transparent Brauberg glue,
1 tube of Luch glue,
1 tsp. oils for baby skin care,

Divide the slime into 4 parts, paint each one a different color by dropping pigment and squeezing the mass with your fingers.

Sodium tetraborate (borax) is a compound of inorganic origin. Chemical formula of the compound Na2B4O7. It has two common forms of release: sodium salt and glycerin solution. Sodium salt is used in light industry, and glycerin solution is used in pharmacology.

Release form. A 20% solution of boron in glycerin is usually produced in bottles with a capacity of 30 g.
