Sage (dietary supplement) tab. d/rass. No. 20 Pharmproduct/Russia

Release form and composition

The main active ingredients of cough tablets are leaf extract and sage oil. The plant has antimicrobial properties, reduces the severity of the inflammatory process, and has a general strengthening effect on the immune system.

Sage helps restore the functionality of the cilia of the ciliated epithelium, thus enhancing mucociliary clearance (local protective properties of the mucosa).

The plant extract affects the receptors of the bronchial endothelium and provokes additional sputum production. This allows you to transform a dry cough into a wet (productive) one and quickly remove pathological exudate from the lower parts of the respiratory system.

Another important component in sage cough drops is ascorbic acid (vitamin C). This is a powerful antioxidant that suppresses the spread of infection, normalizes biochemical processes at the cellular level, and restores the integrity of the mucous membrane.

Excipients in the composition of the drug:

  • anhydrous citric acid - stabilizer;
  • sucrose - sweetener;
  • glucose orphans - preservative;
  • flavoring - oil extract with the smell and taste of sage;
  • purified water.

The medication is available in the form of lozenges (lozenges) in blisters of 12 pcs. There are 1 or 2 blisters in one cardboard package.

Pharmacology

Salvia officinalis - the main active component of lozenges - disinfects, stops bleeding, relieves inflammation and has an astringent and diuretic effect.

It helps reduce lactation in nursing mothers, stops hair loss, is beneficial for gastritis, gastric ulcers, inflammatory disease of the colon mucosa, cholecystitis, and helps strengthen the central nervous system.

Sage is rich in vitamin A, the accumulation of which in the body has the following effects:

  • prolongs youth, preventing age-related changes;
  • accelerates the processes of cellular regeneration of the skin;
  • helps smooth out wrinkles;
  • evens out skin tone, discoloring pigmentation.

The large number of medicinal properties of this herb allows it to be included in complex therapy for diseases such as:

  • hypoacid gastritis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, bloating, inflammation of the walls of the colon;
  • hepatitis, biliary dyskinesia, presence of gallstones;
  • cystitis, pyelonephritis;
  • menstrual disorders;
  • suppression of lactation;
  • muscle weakness during menopause in women.

The tablets are of plant origin and have a local disinfecting effect. They are indicated in the treatment of diseases of the nasal cavity, nasal and oral pharynx. Lollipops are not able to completely cure the disease, because they are not a medicine in the traditional sense.

Sweets with sage slow down the spread of negative reactions that occur when exposed to a pathogenic factor, reduce inflammation, reduce pain and swelling.

Sage ether in the lozenges has an aromatherapy effect, cools the throat, and provides a local anesthetic effect.

Sage extract is a source of tanning agents and plant polyphenols, which improve elasticity and regulate the permeability of the vascular walls of the nasal cavity, nasal and oral pharynx.

Isoprenes, monoterpenes and menthane oxide, which are contained in the extract, give the drug a slight mucolytic property. Lollipops relax and suppress spasms, eliminate irritation during a strong cough, and speed up the process of mucus separation.

Vitamin C, which is part of the lollipops, fights free radicals, stopping their oxidative effect. Being an antioxidant, it prevents cell destruction, stops premature aging, and eliminates factors that provoke the development of the inflammatory process.

The drug does not contain sugar, the pleasant taste is provided by sorbitol.

Sage provides gentle oral care:

  • strengthens gums;
  • eliminates bleeding;
  • heals the mucous membrane;
  • has a detrimental effect on infectious agents.

As the tablet dissolves, an invisible film appears on the mucous membrane, which prevents harmful microorganisms from spreading. To prolong this effect, after eating sweets it is not recommended to eat or drink anything for half an hour.

The drug has the following advantages:

  • not only treats, but also quickly relieves symptoms;
  • easy to use - if acute pain occurs in the oropharynx or a cough attack - it is enough to dissolve one lozenge to obtain a powerful positive effect;
  • the frequency of recommended intake in the instructions for use of lozenges with sage states that they can be taken no more than 5 times - this is enough to not feel unpleasant symptoms throughout the day;
  • does not cause individual addiction - it is a practically harmless remedy, consisting only of natural ingredients; negative consequences after taking it rarely appear.

The affordable price allows all people to use this drug.

Allergic reactions are possible.

Drug interactions

Taking salvia preparations may interfere with the effects of medications that act through GABA receptors (eg, barbiturates, benzodiazepines).

Concomitant use with these drugs is not recommended.

Sage preparations can interact with hypoglycemic and anticonvulsants, and enhance the sedative effect of other drugs and alcohol. This medicine may affect the absorption of iron and other minerals.

During pregnancy

You should not take sage lozenges during pregnancy.

The plant extract contains organic substances that resemble female sex hormones, which is why they are called phytoestrogens. For pregnant women, it is important to maintain the correct hormonal balance for normal pregnancy.

Thus, additional estrogen intake will not bring benefit. Even a few lollipops can increase uterine tone, lead to premature birth in the early stages, and provoke a miscarriage.

Drug interactions

Sage-based sweets should be prescribed with caution for high blood pressure, insulin deficiency, and mental disorders. When treating these pathologies with medications, taking herbal tablets can lead to the following consequences:

  • enhancing the effect of drugs that depress the central nervous system - depressants;
  • a sharp decrease in glucose levels when taken simultaneously with diabetes medications;
  • increased risk of spontaneous bleeding when taken with blood-thinning medications;
  • decreased effect of medications for seizures;
  • impaired absorption of Fe and other minerals.

Sage-based medications may increase or decrease the healing effect of other medications, so you should consult your doctor first.

Possible side effects

Side effects during treatment with sage lozenges are extremely rare. According to the instructions for use, allergic reactions may develop - swelling of the throat, skin rashes, redness, hives, dermatitis. Patients prone to allergies may develop angioedema or anaphylactic shock.

Sage in large dosages has a neurotoxic effect. Therefore, in rare cases, functional disorders of the kidneys may occur.

It is not recommended to drink fruit juices and alkaline drinks during treatment, because they reduce the activity of the drug.

If there is no improvement within 7 days after starting treatment, the cough and other symptoms worsen, you should consult your doctor about further use of the drug.

For whom are they contraindicated?

Contraindications to the use of throat lozenges are:

  • allergic reactions to the components of the herbal medicine;
  • gastritis with increased acidity of gastric juice;
  • acute nephritis;
  • polycystic disease, fibroids, endometriosis;
  • pregnancy;
  • children under 5 years of age.

The active component of lollipops is an allergen, so before using it it is necessary to conduct a test, for example, on the skin. Sage has an estrogenic effect, its use can provoke the intensive development of pathologies of the female genital organs.
