Therapeutic effect of the drug
The main component of Mexidol paste is used as an antioxidant, membrane protector, and antihypoxant. In the treatment of various diseases, Mexidol-based drugs are administered intravenously and intramuscularly. In the first 5 days, to achieve maximum effect, it is advisable to administer the drug intravenously; in the next 9 days, Mexidol® can be administered intramuscularly. Intravenous administration of the drug is carried out by drip infusion, slowly (to avoid side effects) in a 0.9% sodium chloride solution or 5% dextrose (glucose) solution in a volume of 100-150 ml for 30-90 minutes. If necessary, a slow jet injection of the drug, lasting at least 5 minutes, is possible.
The drug is administered (intravenous or intramuscular) 3 times a day, every 8 hours. The daily therapeutic dose is 6-9 mg/kg body weight per day, a single dose is 2-3 mg/kg body weight. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 800 mg, single dose - 250 mg.
For open-angle glaucoma of various stages as part of complex therapy
Mexidol® is administered intramuscularly at 100-300 mg/day, 1-3 times a day for 14 days.
For alcohol withdrawal syndrome
Mexidol® is administered in a dose of 200-500 mg intravenously or intramuscularly 2-3 times a day for 5-7 days.
In case of acute intoxication with antipsychotic drugs
the drug is administered intravenously at a dose of 200-500 mg/day for 7-14 days.

Materials and methods
The objects of the study were toothpastes from the MEXIDOL dent series: MEXIDOL dent Aktiv MEXIDOL dent Complex, MEXIDOL dent Sensitive, MEXIDOL dent Fito, MEXIDOL dent Teens, MEXIDOL dent Professional White. The entire line does not contain fluoride or antiseptics.
The three studied pastes, in addition to the main active ingredient (antioxidant), cleansing base and auxiliary components, the same for all samples, contain extracts of medicinal plants with antioxidant properties (Table 1).

Based on a set of parameters - high sensitivity, speed of the analysis procedure, low cost of equipment and reagents - and therefore analysis in general, the potentiometric method of analysis is optimal [8, 9] .
The peculiarities of the chemical properties of 2-ethyl-6-methylpyridin-3-ol succinate determined the choice of potentiometric titration as the most convenient method for studying the objects under study. The use of the potentiometric method of analysis is all the more justified in this case, since the object of study is a heterogeneous system - a suspension.
Potentiometric measurements were carried out on a potentiometer "I-160 MI" using an electrode system: a working electrode - platinum and a reference electrode - silver chloride (NPO "Measuring Technology IT").
AOA was assessed by the reducing properties of the active substance. An aqueous solution of potassium permanganate with a molar concentration of equivalent Ceq(KMnO4) = 0.05 mol/L in a medium of 1 mol/L H2SO4 was used as an oxidizing reagent for determining AOA. The KMnO4 solution was standardized against a sodium oxalate solution prepared by precise weighing.
To prepare the analyzed system, 10 ml of distilled water and 10 ml of sulfuric acid solution were added to 5 g of paste (exactly weighed), and stirred on a magnetic stirrer to obtain a homogeneous suspension.
For titration, an aliquot portion (Va.d = 5 ml) of the resulting suspension was taken. The equivalent volume of the titrant solution, Veq (KMnO4), was determined from the jump in potentiometric titration using integral and differential curves. Titration was carried out every seven days in five replicates.
The stability of reducing properties or AOA was assessed by the total amount of antioxidants (g/ml) included in the paste that reacted with potassium permanganate, calculated as 2-ethyl-6-methylpyridin-3-ol succinate.
The mass concentration of the antioxidant Mexidol in the analyzed samples was calculated using the law of equivalents:
Cm=Ceq (KMnO4)·Veq (KMnO4)·Meq(Mexidol)/Va.d.1000, g/ml
for a reaction proceeding according to the scheme:
2-ethyl-6-methylpyridin-3-ol succinate + KMnO4 + H2SO4 → oxidation products 2-ethyl-6-methylpyridin-3-ol succinate + MnSO4 + K2SO4 + H2O.
The studied pastes were thermostated at a temperature of 40°C for six months, which corresponds to 2 years of storage of the preparations.
